About

I’m Beck and this is my service dog Doozy.

I am a licensed mental health counselor with a master’s in counseling psychology. After a career in higher education, as a life coach, advisor and counselor, I am bringing those skills to my private practice.

My goal is to give back to the community. I feel that the best way I can help the world is to help one person at a time through counseling.

I work from a sex positive perspective and with a Healthy at Every Size philosophy. I have experience with people who identify as LGBTQ+, gender-expansive, neuro-diverse, non-monogamous, polyamorous, kinky, and those who live with chronic disability or illness.

I approach the therapy relationship with respect, warmth, and curiosity to create a safe space for self-reflection and discovery. It is important to me that you feel accepted as you are and who you are.

I see therapy as a collaboration between two experts: You are the expert on your life. I bring expertise on mental health and how we, as humans, respond to life events. As we examine your concerns, we can combine our expertise to gain greater clarity and insight to see new ways forward.

To tailor your therapy, during your initial session we will talk about your goals, the likely duration of your therapy and the approaches I believe might be most useful.

I pull from different theories and methods based on what is needed, and what we discover works well for you.

These techniques include:

  • acceptance and commitment therapy

  • cognitive behavioral therapy

  • dialectical behavioral therapy

  • evidence-based therapies

  • motivational interviewing

  • narrative therapy

  • person-centered therapy

  • solution focused brief therapy

The Therapeutic Process can be a very rewarding. It can also be challenging. By engaging this process, you are taking a positive step to support your healing and self-care. Outcomes of treatment rely not just on the competence of the therapist but also on the willingness of the client to fully engage in the process, even when discomfort arises. Therapy is not a magic wand I can wave to make you “better” and I cannot make any specific promises about what will change for you. However, I can promise that I will support you, do my very best to understand you, help you clarify what you want for yourself, and be present with you at each stage of this process.
